By Laura Kilgus, Associate Editor PROVIDENCE — For the second year in a row, the Catholic Charity Appeal has exceeded its goal in the Diocese of Providence. As of June 26, the 2023 Appeal has reached $7,245,238 in pledges and one-time gifts from 18,957 donors, meeting 103% of its $7 million goal. This is the most raised in the campaign since 2017.

PROVIDENCE — With two months left to go in the 2023 Catholic Charity Appeal, the annual collection has reached 80% of its goal to raise $7 million. During the Lenten season, pastors and laity made presentations to parishioners about the importance of the Appeal in supporting numerous diocesan outreach ministries.

PROVIDENCE — Six weeks, or one quarter of the way into the 2023 diocesan Catholic Charity Appeal, the campaign has reached 37% of its $7 million goal. As of February 24, the Appeal has generated $2,657,387 in pledges and one-time gifts from 6,781 donors. The annual Appeal, with the theme “Walking Together in Faith,” kicked off in the middle of January and will end in June.

PROVIDENCE — For her years of dedicated support for the local church, including her donation of $4.5 million to the Diocese of Providence, which allowed for the completion of the recent restoration of the towers project at the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul, Barbara Papitto, along with her late husband Ralph, a successful local businessman, will be honored in March with a plaque in their name which will be affixed to a back wall of the cathedral.
PROVIDENCE — Noting the words of St. Paul, “For we walk by faith, not by sight,” (II Cor 5:7), Bishop Thomas J. Tobin this week launched the 2023 Catholic Charity Appeal in the Diocese of Providence, introducing the theme chosen for this year’s campaign: “Walking Together in Faith.”
Join Bishop Tobin for a Holy Mass for Life in thanksgiving for the gift of life in the Cathedral Saturday, January 21 at 9 a.m. In addition, the Missionary Image of Our Lady of Guadalupe will be in the Cathedral this special morning for veneration.
December 15 was a joyous occasion over at the St. Martin de Porres Senior Center for the Diocese of Providence as they celebrated their annual Christmas party. The afternoon was full of carols, thoughtful gifts, a beautiful meal, and a special visit from Bishop Thomas J. Tobin. Bishop Tobin told the seniors that he prays that God will continue to bless them this Christmas season and in the new year to come.
Bishop Thomas J. Tobin, on Dec. 20, presented store gift cards to Audra Mena and Madeline Gomez, two of the 1,600 families with new or expectant mothers each year who receive formula, infant supplies, clothing and other assistance from the Diocese of Providence’s Gabriel Project.
