James T. Ruggieri, Bishop of the Diocese of Portland, Maine accompanied by priests and deacons who serve in parishes with Hispanic communities in the Diocese of Providence. Confessions and Rosary Prayer begin at 6 p.m.

These fires have killed at least five people, destroyed thousands of homes and structures and more than 180,000 people have evacuated. By Jennifer Barton, Rhode Island Catholic Correspondent - ROME — Romans 5:5 states that “Hope does not disappoint,” and these words resound amid the chaos of the modern world. Perhaps that is why Pope Francis announced 2025 as Jubilee Year with the theme “Pilgrims of Hope.”
“A gift to the Appeal funds immediate assistance programs that aid those in desperate need of food, shelter and heating assistance, but it also builds up the Church in the areas of Evangelization, Catholic Education, Spiritual Formation and Ministerial Services,” said Tim McCaig, director of Stewardship and Development, noting that approximately 200,000 instances of service occur each year through Catholic Social Services.
“Especially during this Advent season, our God is seeking to gather us together and lead us towards heaven. Because heaven is the goal, my friends,” Msgr. Kenney said. “And now with the celebration of Christmas in just a few weeks, we’re going to talk about the incarnation of Jesus coming into our world, the Son of God coming into our lives to change us, to make us more holy, to make us more faithful disciples.” (PHOTOS: LAURA KILGUS)
