CRANSTON — At the western end of St. Ann Cemetery, in a bucolic grove, stands the Diocese of Providence’s newest place of rest for the dearly departed.
Summer is a time when many of us take a step back from our normal routines and unwind a little bit. The slower schedule at work and school, and the nicer weather (at least here in the north), afford us the opportunity to rest, relax, recreate and recharge – perhaps by spending some time with family and friends, traveling somewhere pleasant, or just sitting on the front porch catching-up with the neighbors.
CRANSTON — The dust was still settling this week during a tour of the new Saints Peter & Paul Mausoleum. Construction dust, that is, as workers were putting the finishing touches on the 22,000-square-foot structure that Roman Catholic Bishop Thomas J. Tobin will dedicate at 11 a.m. Saturday. (G. PROVIDENCE — In the midst of a global pandemic, whether you tended to the medical or spiritual needs at the bedside of COVID-19 patients, kept order in the streets as a law enforcement officer, answered the alarm for fire and medical emergencies, provided crucial virus testing and vaccinations as a member of the National Guard, kept the mail delivery flowing, stocked the shelves and served customers in local supermarkets or taught children or young adults in person or remotely to keep them from falling behind in their studies, you all had one thing in common: you served as a much-needed essential worker in a time of crisis.
It was an unexpected honor to be asked to serve as the director for the Society for the Propagation of the Faith by Bishop Thomas J. Tobin. To be a successor in the position of the late Msgr. William Varsanyi and, more recently, Father Robert Perron is also an honor. It is also bittersweet because it was occasioned by the sudden passing of Father Perron on August 1, 2020.
In conformity with the Code of Canon Law and the Priest Personnel Policy of the Diocese of Providence, the Most Reverend Thomas J. Tobin is pleased to appoint the following pastors to a new six year term:...

PROVIDENCE — At this time last year, at the heart of the COVID-19 outbreak, Father Albert Ranallo had already finished marshalling a group of priests to serve in the hospital ministry — with all of its uncertainties as the virus continued to spread — and was hard at work securing enough personal protective equipment to keep them safe.
President Joe Biden’s refusal to uphold the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits federal tax dollars from contributing to abortions, reveals his administration’s radical pro-abortion agenda. There was a time when even most Democrats would argue abortions should be “rare,” clearly recognizing, at least in part, the inherent barbarity of the industry which disguises itself as health-care for women.
Throughout the month of June, the Diocese of Providence honors the extraordinary efforts of essential workers throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. We are immensely grateful for their lifesaving and lifegiving work. To give thanks to God for all essential workers, the Most Rev. Robert C. Evans, Auxiliary Bishop of Providence, will celebrate a public and livestreamed Holy Mass on Sunday, June 13 at 10 a.m. at St. Ann Church in Providence, R.I.
