Carlo Acutis was only 15-years-old when he died of leukemia in 1996. He took his faith more seriously than most of his peers — with a particularly deep devotion to the Eucharist — and he had a talent for using modern technology (as most young people today do). He combined those qualities by developing a website (www.miracolieucharistici.org) which documents Eucharistic miracles from around the world.

PROVIDENCE — On Sunday, in dioceses all around the world, the local phase of the 2023 Synod of Bishops opened. Pope Francis invoked the synod, officially titled “For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation and Mission,” but known colloquially as the Synod on Synodality, to discuss ways to broaden participation in the Church.
The decision to open the diocese’s observance of the 150th anniversary of its establishment by holding a ceremony in honor of Mary, the Mother of God, in the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul called attention to the cathedral itself.

In his canticle, Zechariah rejoiced that the Lord had come to the People of Israel to save them from their enemies, from those who hated them. But it begs the question: Who is the enemy today? It’s a good question since, according to one count, the word enemy (or “enemies”) is found in the Bible 372 times! So, who are our enemies?

The decision to open the diocese’s observance of the 150th anniversary of its establishment by holding a ceremony in honor of Mary, the Mother of God, in the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul called attention to the cathedral itself. The original SS. Peter and Paul, where Mass was celebrated on March 10, 1837, was one of the early stone churches constructed in Providence. It was poorly built and the congregation struggled to pay the masons and carpenters who built it and who later attached a lien to the building when the congregation was unable to completely pay for its construction.
PROVIDENCE — While the format for this year’s Human Life Guild Day will be different from the daylong events of previous years as the pandemic continues, it promises to be a very impactful event for all in attendance. “Instead of a day of speakers we have combined the annual Human Life Guild Mass with the diocese’s 150th anniversary program, which features pro-life speaker Gloria Purvis at McVinney Auditorium immediately afterward, which I think makes a for beautiful day,” said Lisa Cooley, coordinator of the diocesan Office of Life and Family.
