(PROVIDENCE, RI) - The Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence will welcome one new priest on Saturday June 6, 2020 at the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul. The Most Reverend Thomas J. Tobin, Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence, will preside at the ordination of Deacon Hiep Van Nguyen.
Hiep, son of Thao Nguyen and Phuong Pham of Vietnam, entered seminary in 2012 and was assigned to St. John’s Seminary in Boston, Massachusetts for his formation to the priesthood. He also attended the University of Santo Tomas for additional studies. His summer assignments as a seminarian included St. John Paul II, Pawtucket; St. Paul, Cranston; St. Timothy, Warwick; Our Lady of Mercy, East Greenwich; Jesus Saviour, Newport and SS. John and Paul, Coventry. After his diaconate ordination in 2019, Deacon Van Nguyen served as a deacon at St. Paul Parish in Cranston before returning to the seminary to complete his formation for the priesthood.
Father Hiep Van Nguyen will celebrate his first Mass of Thanksgiving on June 7 at St. Philip Church in Greenville at 2:00pm. He has been assigned to St. Francis Xavier Parish in East Providence as Assistant Pastor.
