Reverend Raymond A. Beaulieu, 98, Pastor Emeritus of St. John Vianney Parish in Cumberland died Thursday, February 16, 2017. Born in Pawtucket, a son of the late Alfred and Marie Anne (Sirois) Beaulieu, he attended St. Cecilia School and St. Raphael Academy, both in Pawtucket, and Providence College. He completed studies for the priesthood at the Grand Seminaire de St. Brieuc, France, at St. Mary Seminary in Baltimore, and at Our Lady of Providence Seminary in Warwick. He was ordained to the priesthood on December 19, 1942 at the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul in Providence by Bishop Francis P. Keough.
Father Beaulieu served as assistant pastor in the following parishes: St. John the Baptist, Pawtucket (1943-51); St. Peter, Warwick (1955-62); and St. Anthony, Providence (1962-67). During his time at St. Peter Parish, Father was the Regional Director of the Warwick Catholic Youth Organization (CYO). Between his assignments in Pawtucket and Warwick, he also served as a Chaplain in the U.S. Navy (1951-55) at various posts.
In September 1967, Father Beaulieu was appointed pastor of St. Mark Parish, Jamestown, and served there until April 1970, when he became pastor of St. John Vianney Parish, Cumberland. Father Beaulieu remained there until his retirement in February 1990 as pastor emeritus.
After his retirement, he resided in Jamestown. In his later years and at the time of his death, Father lived in Florida.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 24, 2017 from 10 to 11am at Saint John Vianney Church, 3609 Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland. A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial for the repose of Father Beaulieu’s soul will follow at 11am at St. John Vianney Church.
Burial will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket.
