Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, the Latin patriarch of Jerusalem, has called the universal Church to unite in a day of prayer, fasting, and penance on October 7, which is World Rosary Day. The day will coincide with the first anniversary of Hamas’ attack on Israel. It is also the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. Pope Francis has broadening this invitation to be a day to pray for peace around the world. As reported by Joseph Tulloch of Vatican News on October 2, after Mass in St Peter’s Square for the opening of the second session of the General Assembly of the Synod, the Holy Father said, “In this dramatic hour of our history, while the winds of war and the fires of violence continue to devastate entire peoples and nations,” the Christian community is reminded of its call to "put itself at the service of humanity."
