(LINCOLN)— The Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence will honor seventeen individuals with the Lumen Gentium Award for service to the church and community at a dinner on Wednesday, May 17 at 6:00 p.m. at the Twin River Event Center in Lincoln. Proceeds from the event will benefit senior priests that are no longer in active ministry.
“The Lumen Gentium Awards recognize individuals and organizations that have made outstanding personal contributions to the life of the Church and the wider community throughout Rhode Island,” said Bishop Tobin. “In their service they personify the inherent goodness of our Catholic Faith, and for that we are all most grateful.”
This year more than 130 nominations were accepted for consideration in 10 categories -- Administration & Stewardship, Community Service and Charitable Outreach, Catholic Education, Communications, Distinguished Catholic Youth, Evangelization, Friend of the Diocese, Parish Service, Public Service and Respect Life.
Since its inception in 2013, the Lumen Gentium Awards fundraising dinner has raised more than $295,000 benefitting the ministries of the diocese including the Emmanuel House homeless shelter, parish food pantries and soup kitchens, Catholic education and elder care centers.
