‘Keep the Heat On’ Campaign Kicks-Off with the RI Coalition Against Domestic Violence

(PROVIDENCE, RI) – ‘Keep the Heat On,’ a heating assistance program of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence, will kick off the 15 ^th anniversary of the campaign at the Diocese of Providence Chancery Building, One Cathedral Square, Providence on Monday, November 25 at 11:00 am. 
 
Bishop Thomas J. Tobin will present checks of $1,500 to each of the five full member agencies of the Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence including the Blackstone Valley Advocacy Center, Domestic Violence Resource Center of South County, Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center, Sojourner House and the Women’s Resource Center, to assist their clients with heating bills. This donation for heating assistance comes on the heels of the newly announced, ‘Pathway to Peace, Domestic Violence Outreach’ program of the Diocese of Providence.
             
“Our diocesan ‘Keep the Heat On’ program continues to be a valuable resource and a great success in providing heating assistance to many individuals and families in our region,” said Bishop Tobin. “Since its beginning 15 years ago, the campaign has generated more than $3 million for thousands of households who had no other place to turn to keep their homes warm during our long and cold New England winters.”
 
The Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence (RICADV) is an organization dedicated to ending domestic violence. The RICADV was formed in 1979 to support and assist the domestic violence agencies in Rhode Island.
 
‘Keep the Heat On’ has offered a much needed lifeline to many local households, providing heating assistance to Rhode Islanders who have exhausted all other public and private forms of assistance. The program, entering its 15 ^th season, has raised more than $3 million to help more than 14,000 Rhode Island families and individuals keep warm in the winter months. Funding for the program comes from the Catholic Charity Appeal and donations from parishes, businesses and individuals.
