Deacon Formation Program Deacons are men who love God and the Church and are called to serve in a more committed way. The role of the deacon is to be of service to the bishops and priests and to proclaim by his life the Church’s call to serve the needs of others. The application process will take place over the spring and summer. It is expected that the four-year process of formation and education will begin in September 2016. Successful applicants must be at least 31 years of age and not older than 56 years of age on January 1, 2016 at the time of application (age change effective February 1st, 2016).
