(PROVIDENCE) – Father Phillip J. Dufour was ordained to the priesthood on Saturday, June 30 at the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul in Providence. Bishop Thomas J. Tobin was the main celebrant and ordaining bishop.
Father Dufour, a Bristol native and son of Denise and Gerard Dufour, of Bristol, attended Our Lady of Mt Carmel School in Bristol and Bishop Stang High School in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts. In 2010, he entered Our Lady of Providence Seminary and attended Providence College where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy. In 2014, he was assigned to continue his seminary formation at the Pontifical North American College in Rome, and received a Bachelor of Sacred Theology degree from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas.
While a seminarian, Father DuFour was assigned to St. Rocco Parish, Johnston, Rhode Island Hospital, Providence and St. Francis deSales Parish in North Kingstown. He was ordained to the transitional diaconate in 2017 by Bishop James Checchio, in the Papal Basilica of St. Peter in Rome.
Father Dufour celebrated his first Mass of Thanksgiving on Sunday, July 1 at his home parish, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Bristol. He was assigned as summertime Assistant Pastor, St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Wakefield, effective July 9, 2018 and will return to Rome to continue his studies beginning in September.
