(PROVIDENCE, RI) – The Diocese of Providence has announced that the Emmanuel House Homeless Shelter will remain open for its guests this weekend as a 24- hour cooling center because of the issuance of an excessive heat warning by the National Weather Service. Throughout the weekend guests will be provided meals in the air-condition facility located at 239 Public Street in Providence.
“Since we are expecting dangerously high heat indexes this weekend, the Emmanuel House Homeless Shelter will remain open for our guests from 7:00 pm tonight through Monday morning,” said Dotty Perrault, Emmanuel House site manager. “When the weather becomes this oppressive, our guests can become over heated very quickly and risk very serious health consequences due to the stress the heat may have on them,” she continued.
Since 2010, Emmanuel House has provided a safe place each night for single men to stay during the year in addition to other services such as addiction recovery, employment resources and much more.
