(Providence, R.I.) - The Most Reverend Thomas J. Tobin, Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence, will celebrate Easter Mass at the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul on Sunday, April 12, 2020 at 11 am. Auxiliary Bishop Robert C. Evans will concelebrate the Mass, which will be broadcast live on the local NBC affiliate, WJAR Channel 10 and
turnto10.com as well as on the local CBS affiliate, WPRI Channel 12 and
wpri.com.
Since March 17, all Masses in the Diocese of Providence have been closed to the public in accordance with social distance protocols as outlined by state and federal officials amid the coronavirus crisis pandemic.
“I am greatly looking forward to sharing the televised Mass with the faithful on Easter Sunday morning,” said Bishop Tobin. “Although the cathedral will be empty, our hearts will be full – with the joy and peace and confident hope that the Resurrection of Christ inspires in us.”
The Diocese of Providence is thankful to WJAR for offering to broadcast this special Mass for the faithful to watch from the comfort of their own homes on this most joyful of days for Catholics.
Easter celebrates the resurrection of Jesus three days after His Crucifixion on Good Friday. It also marks an end to the Lenten season.
