(PROVIDENCE, R.I.) – The Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence today received a $100,000 donation from the National Grid Foundation for its ‘Keep the Heat On’ heating assistance program. This is the fifth major gift that the diocese has received from the Foundation which increased the donation gift from last year’s amount of $80,000.
Bishop Thomas J. Tobin accepted the check from Ed White, President of the Foundation at the Chancery Office Building in Providence. The National Grid Foundation has donated $365,000 over the last four years to the heating assistance program
“I am most grateful for the generous grant from the National Grid Foundation to our diocesan “Keep the Heat On” program,” said Bishop Tobin. “It is a wonderful gift, and great news to all those in our region who will turn to the Diocese of Providence for heating assistance during the long and cold winter. My very sincere thanks to all those at the National Grid Foundation who made this generous grant possible.”
Since its inception in 2005, KTHO program has raised more than $2.55 million to help more than 11,500 Rhode Island families and individuals who have exhausted all other public and private forms of assistance. This winter the diocese has assisted 750 households at a cost of more than $170,000 to help families and individuals with their heating bills.
The National Grid Foundation was launched in 1998 and has provided more than $20 million in grants to non-profit organizations. Its objective is based on the principle that giving people the tools to build hope is an essential ingredient in the development of individuals, families and communities.
