The venue for the 2020 Lumen Gentium Awards Dinner - Twin River Convention Center, Lincoln - can no longer accommodate the rescheduled 8th Annual Lumen Gentium Awards Dinner Wednesday, October 13, 2021—not now or in the foreseeable future. We have searched Rhode Island to find another suitable and open venue for the size and format of our dinner with no success.
For that reason, the 8th Annual Lumen Gentium Awards recognition will be a small private event.
Thank you.
You are the light of the world - St. Matthew 5:14
Many individuals and groups throughout the Diocese of Providence work tirelessly in support of the work of the Church in their parishes. Often, they do so without compensation or acclaim, yet because of their devotion to the Church, they ‘toil in the vineyard’ in service to the Lord and those in greatest need.
The Lumen Gentium Awards formally recognize these dedicated individuals and groups. Awards are presented in 9 specific categories to recognize those who have demonstrated outstanding service to the church in their parish, the Diocese of Providence and/or the local community-at-large. A committee, under the leadership of the Vicar General/Moderator of the Curia, was established to solicit nominees from across the Diocese. All nominees are reviewed by the committee and final recommendations submitted to Bishop Tobin for approval.
Nominations closed 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 13th, 2020.Thank you for taking the time to make a nomination to the Lumen Gentium Awards and to share with us the important work our brothers and sisters are doing in the Diocese of Providence, Rhode Island!

This was a private event.
In 2012, Bishop Thomas J. Tobin, convened a committee to establish an annual program to recognize individuals, groups and organizations for their service to the Catholic Church in the Diocese of Providence. To formally recognize these dedicated individuals and groups, Bishop Tobin in 2013 established the Lumen Gentium Awards, to be presented in 9 specific categories to recognize those who have demonstrated outstanding service to the church in their parish, the Diocese of Providence and/or the local community-at-large. A significant priority of the Diocese, the springtime Lumen Gentium Awards Dinner recognizes those for their distinguished service and personal contributions to the life and ministry of the Church in the Diocese. The annual event also serves as a fundraiser for various social ministry programs and ministries of the diocese.
