PROVIDENCE—Most Rev. Richard G. Henning, D.D., S.T.D., Bishop of Providence, will be the celebrant and homilist at a special diocesan Wedding Anniversary Celebration. At this event 184 married couples from 66 parishes across Rhode Island will be celebrating a major milestone wedding anniversary. This annual celebration will be held Sunday, October 22 at 1 p.m. in the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul in Providence.
The Wedding Anniversary Celebration honors couples who in the last year celebrated significant wedding anniversaries—70, 60, 50, 40 and 25 years together. Bishop Henning will bless the couples in front of family and friends while couples will renew their wedding vows. Couples will participate in the Holy Mass that follows including readings from scripture, prayers, and presenting the gifts.
This year, the couples include: 23 couples celebrating 25 years, 43 couples celebrating 40 years, 51 couples celebrating 50 years, 60 couples celebrating milestones of more than 50 years, and 7 couples celebrating other anniversaries.
A reception will follow in the lower level of the Cathedral where the couples have an opportunity to take a photo with the bishop and receive a personalized certificate from the Diocese of Providence in remembrance of this special occasion.
Those unable to be in attendance will be able to "join" from home. Beginning at 1 p.m. the celebration will be livestreamed from the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul to view on the diocesan YouTube channel, https://YouTube.com/DioceseofProvidenceRI.
