Reverend Robert P. Perron, 67, Pastor of St. Michael Parish in Providence, Rhode Island, died on Saturday, August 1, 2020.
Born in Central Falls, Rhode Island, a son of the late Alfred and Florence (Lefebvre) Perron, he attended St. Matthew School, Central Falls, and then Our Lady of Providence High School Seminary, Providence.
In preparation for the priesthood, he studied at Our Lady of Providence Seminary in Warwick, Rhode Island, and then was selected to be a participate in the prestigious Basselin Scholar program at the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, to complete his studies in philosophy. After theological studies at St. Bernard Seminary in Rochester, New York, he was ordained a priest on June 6, 1981 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish, West Warwick, by Bishop Louis E. Gelineau.
Father Perron served as assistant pastor at St. Lucy Parish, Middletown (1981-86) and Our Lady of Mercy Parish, East Greenwich (1986-88) and then as a Team Ministry member at St. Michael Parish, Providence (1988-92). In July 1992, he was appointed pastor of Notre Dame Parish, Central Falls, serving until 1997. Father Perron served as administrator at Holy Spirit Parish, Central Falls (1997-2001); St. Joseph Parish, Pawtucket (2007-09); and Sacred Heart Parish, Pawtucket (2007-09). He also served as pastor at All Saints Parish, Woonsocket (2001-2007); Holy Family Parish, Pawtucket (2009-14); and St. Joseph Parish, West Warwick (2014-16).
At the time of his death, Father Perron was pastor at St. Michael Parish, Providence, where his tenure as pastor began in 2016.
In addition to his parish duties, Father was Dean/Vicar Forane for Deanery VII (1990-92); Deanery XII (2003-07); and Deanery I (2013-14). From 2014 until the time of his death, he served as the Diocesan Director of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith. With Sister Susan Jenkinson, Father Perron co-founded “Lucy's Hearth” in the unused convent at St. Lucy Parish, Middletown, and it has been a source of pride for generous benefactors in Newport County for 36 years.

A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, August 7, at 9:30am at Holy Spirit Parish, 1030 Dexter Street, Central Falls.
