PROVIDENCE—Most Rev. Thomas J. Tobin, D.D., Bishop of Providence, will be the celebrant and homilist at a special diocesan Wedding Anniversary Celebration. At this event 160 married couples from 66 parishes across Rhode Island will be celebrating a major milestone wedding anniversary. This annual celebration will be held Sunday, October 16 at 1 p.m. in the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul in Providence.
The Wedding Anniversary Celebration honors couples who in the last year celebrated significant wedding anniversaries—70, 60, 50, 40 and 25 years together. Bishop Tobin will bless the couples in front of family and friends while couples will renew their wedding vows. Couples will participate in the Holy Mass that follows including with readings from scripture, prayers, and presenting the gifts.
This year, the couples celebrating milestone anniversaries at the Holy Mass include: 17 couples celebrating 25 years, 33 couples celebrating 40 years, 52 couples celebrating 50 years, and 55 couples celebrating milestones of more than 50 years.
Three deacons of the Diocese of Providence and their wives are celebrating milestone anniversaries at this special Holy Mass:
•Deacon Robert and Mrs. Elaine Morriseau, Saint Peter Church, Warwick, are celebrating 65 years
•Deacon Paul and Mrs. Gertrude Shea, Saint Paul Church, Cranston, are celebrating 50 years
•Deacon John and Mrs. Marion Baker, SS Rose & Clement Church Warwick, are celebrating 40 years
In addition, the couples will receive the Apostolic Blessing from Pope Francis, requested through the Holy See by the diocesan Office of Marriage Preparation and Enrichment
A reception will follow in the lower level of the Cathedral where the couples have an opportunity to take a photo with the bishop and receive a personalized certificate from the Diocese of Providence in remembrance of this special occasion.
Those unable to be in attendance will be able to "join" from home. Beginning at 1 p.m. the celebration will be live streamed from the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul to view on the diocesan YouTube channel, YouTube.com/DioceseofProvidenceRI.
