Diocesan Office of Multicultural Ministry, Guadalupe Committee honors Our Lady with Mass and lively celebration of faith

December 15 was a joyous occasion over at the St. Martin de Porres Senior Center for the Diocese of Providence as they celebrated their annual Christmas party. The afternoon was full of carols, thoughtful gifts, a beautiful meal, and a special visit from Bishop Thomas J. Tobin. Bishop Tobin told the seniors that he prays that God will continue to bless them this Christmas season and in the new year to come.

All young adults ages 18-30 are welcome to join us for a day of prayer, formation, community, food, and the celebration of Holy Mass while growing in love and reverence for the Sacred Eucharist at Christ the King parish, Kingston, RI on Sat., Feb. 11 from 9am-2pm, check-in begins at 8:30am. Bishop Thomas J. Tobin, on Dec. 20, presented store gift cards to Audra Mena and Madeline Gomez, two of the 1,600 families with new or expectant mothers each year who receive formula, infant supplies, clothing and other assistance from the Diocese of Providence’s Gabriel Project.

PROVIDENCE—Two neighboring parishes which have long collaborated and shared a pastor, staff, programs, and resources will now be formally combined. After consulting the diocesan College of Consultors and the Council of Priests, Most Rev. Thomas J. Tobin, Bishop of Providence, approved the request of the pastor and leadership of two parishes to merge Saint Madeleine Sophie Parish into Saint Catherine of Siena Parish effective January 24, 2023.

While Rome authorities had predicted between 30,000 and 35,000 visitors a day, some 65,000 people filed past the pope’s body Jan. 2 — the first of three days dedicated to public viewing. More than 25,000 people were counted by midday Jan. 3 with another seven hours left to go and 12 hours of visiting scheduled for Jan. 4.

Father Raymond L. Tetrault, 87, Pastor Emeritus of the former St. Teresa Parish, Providence, died Tuesday, January 3. Visitation will be in Blessed Sacrament Church, Academy Avenue, on Friday, January 6, from 5pm – 7pm, followed by a parish Mass at 7pm. A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial for the repose of his soul will be offered on Saturday, January 7, at 10am, at Blessed Sacrament Church, Providence. Burial will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery, West Greenwich.
