In his book “Out of the Ashes: Rebuilding American Culture,” Professor Anthony Esolen asks, “What is the single condition of a boy’s life that correlates most strongly with whether he will turn criminal?” He then answers his own query: “Not income, not by a long shot. It is whether he grew up in the same home with his father. Our prisons are full to bursting with fatherless boys who never became the men and fathers that God meant them to be.”
OUR ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION CONTINUES! The special concert will include “Jubilee Te Deum” which Rev. Monsignor Anthony Mancini, Rector of the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul and conductor of the Gregorian Concert Choir and Orchestra, was commissioned to compose for a choral symposium in Calabria, Italy in the year 2000. The “Jubilee Te Deum” is a prayer of praise and Thanksgiving, most appropriate for our 150th anniversary celebration! Click for more!
Salvatore Cordileone, Archbishop of San Francisco, declared that Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a member of his Archdiocese, cannot be admitted to Holy Communion. This declaration came after several attempts to warn her. The Archbishop justified his decision by invoking Canon 915.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (CNS) — With Ada’s first pregnancy, she didn’t have the support, she didn’t know the resources available to her. She often ran out of diapers and clothes and had trouble finding people to talk to about it. Her OB-GYN suggested that she reach out to St. Gabriel’s Call, a ministry of the Diocese of Providence dedicated to easing a mother’s worries by providing families with diapers, toiletries, cribs, baby carriers and many other items.
I confess to being a news junkie. I follow international, national and local news. I’m interested in political and religious events, in weather reports and happenings in the sports world. I watch the news in the morning during breakfast, at noon during lunch, and at night during dinner. I sleep with the radio on, usually listening to talk radio, and if I wake during the night, I check my phone to see what’s happening in the world. It’s a very bad habit, I know, and probably not good for the body, mind or soul.
This celebration helps us to remember that growth in the Christian life must be anchored to the Mystery of the Cross, to the oblation of Christ in the Eucharistic Banquet and to the Mother of the Redeemer and Mother of the Redeemed, the Virgin who makes her offering to God.
